I want to create my own flashcard packs - how can I do this?

The best way to create flashcard packs, is to use the Flashcard Builder. This program which runs on Windows Desktops is available as a free download from:

       http://www.thirddevice.com/ixflashcard/index-b.html

Alternatively, you can create legacy *.txt files as described here:

       http://www.thirddevice.com/ixflashcard/example.html

and either import them into the builder or open them directly in the flashcard app on your phone. If you create legacy *.txt files - you can also use the app to convert the file to a *.ixf file - which will allow you to track statistics across sessions etc.

I want to add images how do I do this? Are there any restrictions as far as file size or image file type?

The easiest way to add images, is to use the ixFlashcard builder. For each card, there is a button that allows you to add the image, preview the image after it is resized to the optimum size for ixFlashcards. This program which runs on Windows Desktops is available as a free download from:

       http://www.thirddevice.com/ixflashcard/index-b.html

The builder accepts multiple formats (including: *.jpg, *.bmp, *.png, *.gif).
The optimum size is a width of 100 pixels by a height of 80 pixels, but the builder will accept larger or smaller images as well.
The image files are limited to being less than 200KB.

       http://www.thirddevice.com/ixflashcard/index-b.html

The builder accepts the *.wav format only at this time.

Why does ixFlashcard complain about a file called ixfcard_1.txt?

This file needs to be in the flashcards directory. It is the default flashcard file that the program will open when it is started. You can replace this file with a flashcard file of your own, but it has to be named ixfcard_1.txt and be present in that directory.
The flashcard file should be located in the 'My Documents' folder and named 'flashcards'.
If this happens the first time you run the program, and you have the folder and file in the correct place. Try quitting the program (by clicking on the File menu then selecting 'Quit') then restarting the program.

Why do I get the "Application Error, An error was encountered while running the program: File not found"?

This error typically occurs when an image file specified in the flashcard file cannot be found (i.e. incorrectly named, or incorrect path to the file).

Why do I get the 'Application Manger cannot install this application on your mobile device due to an invalid setup file. Reinstall and try again' error?

This error can be attribted to the OEM of the PocketPC device - see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5Bln%5D;824409 for more information.

How do I uninstall ixFlashcard?

      1. Goto "Settings" from the start menu (small windows icon in top left corner of the screen).
      2. Select the "System" tab (at bottom of screen).
      3. Tap "Remove Programs"
      4. Find ixFlashcard
      5. Tap to highlight
      6. Tap "Remove" button at bottom.
      7. Tap "Yes" to remove the application.

*. NOTE: The uninstall will not remove a few very small files from your device. So
you can do this manually if you like (it is not necessary, it is only if you
want to get rid of the files to conserve storage space).

      8. Start the "File Explorer" - commonly found in the Programs screen.
      8. Change to the "Program Files" folder
      9. Delete the "ixFlashcard" directory. Could also be named "ixFlashcard301" or
      "ixFlashcard106".
      11. You are done.

What is netcf.all.wce4.armv4.cab and why is my device complaining about it?

This is a system file that older windows mobile device may have installed. Basically, all newer devices have a newer version of this file already installed - so you can just ignore this error - the program will run fine on most devices that complain about this error.

My device can't open a zip file - what should I do?

Most newer devices have software to handle zip files (such as 'MS Office Zip Mobile' or 'SPB Pocket Plus Zip'). You can install software such as this - or alternativly, you can download the zip file to your desktop and unzip it there, then install the files by syncing your device.
